The Fish and hips are lovely here and probably one of the best in town, but due to the young group of kids who always hang around near this place as a so called hangout it does deter most people going there to sample the food.
If you can brush past the kids then i would recommend this place to all. -

Rip off! Beware of tiny portion sizes.
Went to the Fountain for a portion of their chips which was £1.70 for the cheapest, which they call 'the baby' I could have cried when I opened them. They tray was smaller than a post card and there were less than 25 chips which were dry and tasteless. So effectively they're charging around 7 pence a chip!
Instead of calling their smallest portion the Baby why not just call them 'the Rip Off' I wouldn't have paid more than 20p for what I got.
I've been to many chip shops and £1.70 gets you a fairly large tray overflowing with chips, this is what you expect for that price. So unless you have an exceeding small appetite and don't mind paying £1.70 for 25 dry tasteless chips, don't bother with the Fountain! -

Its ok. Chips ok but not great. Same for fish. However fish was a bit firm and not fluffy. Either a bit old or overcooked. The batter was not fluffy either and quite floury and a bit stodgy. Overall average or a bit below, was a Monday eve so perhaps not the usual fresh turnover?
